Standout Looks 2013

StandoutLooks2013

There’s much to anticipate for 2013, For the truly fashion-obsessed—guilty as charged!—there’s a crop of fresh new trends to look forward to. 2012 may have been the year of menswear influences and structured pieces, bold prints and futuristic elements, but if the breathtaking Spring 13 collections are any indication, this year conveys a slightly softer touch. In the spirit of new beginnings, these are a handful of new runway looks.

2013 hits on sophisticated subtlety, which we caught glimpses of in Dior’s sheer panels and Calvin Klein Collection’s intricate overlay. Romance is in the air too. Via Emilio Pucci’s louche loungewear shapes and Bottega Veneta’s pretty florals. Seductive details remain understated, including Versace’s peek-a-boo lace-trimmed pants, Altuzarra’s slit skirt, Derek Lam’s slice of bare midriff, and Marc Jacobs’ curve-hugging number. Even the strong undercurrent of ’90s-inspired dressing, as seen in 3.1 Phillip Lim’s graphic tees and flannel is rendered in muted colors.

But while romantic allure is certainly dominant this season, 2013 is no stranger to a few bolder trends. There are shots of color—Proenza Schouler’s perforated red leather! Gucci’s monochrome fuschia! Louis Vuitton’s mod yellow!—and rich textures aplenty, such as Marni’s glossy separates, Prada’s furry coat, and Alexander McQueen’s encrusted ensemble. It simply goes to show that this year is a versatile one for fashion-and I am eager to embrace it all!
