Fall’s Favorite Color: Wine

The season’s changing colors bring certain hues to mind…and the one that tops the list every Fall is rich shades of wine. But don’t worry: you don’t have to commit to one color. There are plenty of varietals—from dusky roses to deep burgundies—that perfectly mix and match.

As with wine, often the simplest versions are the most rewarding.  The same can be said about the minimal Gucci Silk Cady Long Sleeve Dress Cate Blanchett chose.

Wine-OliviaPalermo

Olivia Palermo’s fashion month looks were pretty spectacular, and this faded cherry ensemble was no exception. She paired a Reiss Jacket and Leather Leggings in Cognac to create a modern take on the matching suit.

wine-AshleyMadekwe

You don’t have to retire your colorful moto jacket for the season. Ashley Madekwe paired a pale pink Mural Tough Girl Faux Leather Moto Jacket with Leith’s Long Sleeve Knit Midi Dress in Mahogany and Manolo Blahnik’s Taylor d’Orsay Pumps for a perfectly on-point look.

wine-VictoriaBeckham

There’s perhaps no better way to show your love and affection for this trend than Burberry’s Heart Print Shirt that Victoria Beckham wore.

wine-KiernanShipka

Actress Kiernan Shipka made a splash in her Delpozo Ruffle Skirt Dress at a Maybelline soiree. The combination of bordeaux and peach make for a delightfully sweet blend.

Paint the town: Watercolor Prints

watercolor-prints

This season, it seems as if everything from silky button-downs to skinny jeans are drenched in the dreamy, pastel motifs, and the look couldn’t be more appropriate for spring. At turns the trend is chic and youthful, like Ashley Madekwe’s Etro Butterfly Print Dress ($1998, 310.248.2855) at the Rodeo Drive Walk of Style event in Beverly Hills last December. At other times, watercolors feel more romantic and feminine, particularly on Lela Rose’s Withering Floral Organza Draped Bodice Dress With Cowl Detail And Full Skirt ($1795) from the S/S 13 collection. Here are a few watercolor-inspired styles for you to try!

Marni Printed Cotton-Jersey T-Shirt ($270)
Marni’s playful top displays a watercolor tiger print from Dutch artist Rop van Mierlo’s book Wild Animals. Add some polish to the tee with a fitted blazer and slim blue jeans.

CC Skye Bright Love Lucite Clutch ($255) in Orange/Yellow
This boxy Lucite clutch adds a refreshing splash of color to your look. Style it with a crisp button-down and white trousers for a decidedly fresh take.

Theyskens’ Theory Damara Printed Silk Mini Dress ($595)
For a watercolor look with downtown appeal, try Theyskens’ Theory silk dress. The of-the-moment marble print lends it a contemporary vibe, and the front ties echo the current shirt-tied-around-waist trend too.

Guess Brittney Skinny Ankle Jeans ($138, available May)
Upgrade your classic skinnies with Guess’ sophisticated pair rendered in a mix of hazy hues. Play up the pastel palette by teaming the jeans with a silk blouse in soft lilac or creamy yellow.

tarte Cheek Stain ($30) in Awakening
Make watercolors part of your beauty repertoire with this universally flattering cheek stain. Apply to the apples of your cheeks for a natural, sweet-looking flush.

Charles David Bliss Heels ($230)
The abstract print gets a polished twist in Charles David’s pointy-toe heels. Wear these with a slim pencil skirt for a soft, feminine take on office-appropriate attire.

Harlyn Blouse ($187, 213.614.9292)
If you favor bold, splashy prints, you’ll want to snag Harlyn’s button-down. Wear it with a pair of bright trousers for a statement-making ensemble.

BaubleBar Marquise Leaf Drops ($26)
Tap into the watercolor trend with pastel blue baubles. Slip them on with an equally elegant cocktail number at your next soiree.

Party Clutches

The Inspiration
Your clutch shouldn’t be an afterthought, but rather a piece that further articulates your look. Australian actress Bella Heathcote demonstrated this idea perfectly at the 16th Annual Hollywood Film Awards Gala in Beverly Hills last week when she teamed a one-of-a-kind lilac Gucci cocktail dress with a satin box clutch, also by said fashion house, in the same hue. The clutch’s minimalist design doesn’t compete with the frock-which, with its sheer panel and layered paillettes, is a statement piece in itself-but instead serves as an elegant addition. On the flip side, if you opt for an understated party outfit this season, a glitzy bag, like Elie Saab’s Silver Suede and Crystal Evening Clutch ($975), will add a touch of glamour to your pared-down look.

1. Edie Parker Flavia Clutch ($1395, 212.753.7300) in Nude Pearlescent with Sand Confetti Geo…Don’t want to spend quite so much? Try Topshop’s Diamante Silver Box Clutch ($140) instead.

2. Zara Jeweled Box Clutch ($90)

3. Sondra Roberts Jewel Box Clutch ($200) in Black

4. Reiss Lucy Zip Top Panelled Clutch ($205)

5. Brian Atwood Octavia Clutch ($2995)…Additionally, I approve of ASOS’ Beaded Iridescent Clutch ($62), which hits on the embellished trend too, albeit with a smaller price tag.

6. Juicy Couture Wild Ones Jade Clutch ($198)

7. Stella McCartney Gold Square Evening Collection Clutch ($1995)I also recommend Expressions NYC’s Snake Embossed Box Clutch ($48) as a more wallet-friendly alternative.
