Nail It

It’s less intimidating to make a risqué statement with your nail polish than with a pair of pants. Your style of nail, or polish choice can transform your look instantly. If you’re looking liven up your nails this Spring, here are some of the best nails trends to try!

NailIt-Pastel

Pastels, Of-course

Featured in every spring nail collection this year, it’s clear pastels are going to be thriving this spring. Aren’t they always? Opaque pastels on your nails contrast the dark winter we’ve weathered and are a pretty accent to all your spring-inspired outfits.

Essie nail color , Deborah lippmann nail polish , Sally Hansen Xtreme Wear , L’Oreal Nail Polish

NailIt-MetallicShift

Metallic Shift

It’s got a futuristic feel to it. The “galaxy theme” is a rising trend in fashion, and giving it a shot on your nails will be sleek and different for spring. Plus color-shifting polish is always cool to look at.

Formula X For Sephora , Sally Hansen Insta-Dry , Sally Hansen Lustre Shine , Orly Fx

NailIt-WhiteOut

White Out

With opaque formulas that leave fingers looking sophisticated, immaculate and daring, white-hot nails are on the rise. White will compliment all your outfits and is a fresh trend you might want to try this spring.

Obsessive Compulsive , Sally Hansen , Essie nail polish , China Glaze Nail Laquer

NailIt-Highlighter

Highlighter

Bright colors are in for spring, especially on your fingers. While wearing full-on lime green or yellow might seem scary, it’s not as heart-stopping to have your nails rock it out. After months in less daylight and creating an infinite amount of black on black ensembles – the bright touch is a nice change of pace.

Orly , Butter London , Sally Hansen Xtreme Wear , O.P.I

NailIt-halfmoon

Half Moon

The look gives off an elegant yet edgy feel. The trend can be pulled off multiple ways and the design can be tailored to personal taste and style. You could be a pastel half moon, lime green, white, or aim for a darker shade. This is a great spring trend to experiment with.

NailIt-nontradfrench

Non Traditional French

Not limited to black, pink, or horizontal lines. The nontraditional French can be nude and black, and a diagonal triangle or a matte black and black line for the French tip, as spotted at NYFW. Another interesting trend to channel your taste into.

NailIt-Striped

Striped

Nothing crazy here; we’re not going zebra. For the look, all you’ll need is your choice of base color and stripe color. NYFW went with black and white as their choice of stripe color but you can opt for whatever your little heart desires. Gather your inspiration and design your nails into something fun this spring.

NailIt-NudeNeutrals

Nude Neautrals

With the creation of opaque formulas, neutrals have blossomed into a trend for spring. The look is classy and makes the statement something along the lines of “clean start for spring” – love it.

Butter London , Givenchy , L’Oreal , Insta-Dry , Zoya

NailIt-SheerColor

Sheer Color

The look is simple yet more interesting than the regular solid color. This trend is expected to be extremely popular for the warmer weather. OPI actually released a whole line of sheer colors you might want to try out this Spring!

American Apparel Sheer , Deborah Lippmann Gloss , O.P.I Sheer Tints Tinted Top Coat , Dior Nail Glow

Nail It!

Snowy Summer Polish

Whether you take your cues from the runway or the red carpet—this nail color (or lack of) goes with everything and makes your summer tan pop.

snowypolish-ZoeSaldanaZoe Saldana matched her manicure to her Dolce & Gabbana dress, kicking off summer’s biggest nail trend: opaque white. Manicurist Jenna Hipp used Nailing Hollywood x NCLA’s Nail Wraps ($16) in Orbit Ring.

snowypolish-DeborahLippmanModels wore Deborah Lippmann Nail Color ($17) in Amazing Grace at Honor’s S/S 13 show.

snowypolish-LeaMicheleLea Michele rocked snow white nails at the Beverly Hilton this month. Manicurist Nettie Davis used Essie’s Nail Polish ($8) in Marshmallow.

snowypolish-RevlonRevlon ambassador Jenny Longworth painted two coats of Revlon’s Nail Enamel ($6) in White on White on all of the models at rag & bone’s S/S 13 runway show. (The color’s been discontinued, so try Revlon Top Speed Nail Enamel ($5) in Spirit.)

snowypolish-EmmyRossumEmmy Rossum used Orly’s French Manicure ($9) in White Tips White at Target’s celebration of Justin Timberlake’s new album, The 20/20 Experience, in Los Angeles.

Have a Snowy Summer!

Spring 2013’s Nail Polish Trends

This season, nail colors will be dreamlike and fit for a vintage candy store—beautiful whites and soft pastels with an emphasis on confectionery colors. You’ll also see Iridescent colors, playful patterns, strong retro trends, and small reflective pigments coming into play as well. Here are some of my faves!

Dewey Nudes

A sheer nude shade with a tiny bit of shimmer gives the effect of a dewey finish on nails. Chanel Le Vernis Emprise, $27, chanel.com

Pale Cloud Blue

Wear it to brunch or on your wedding day—either way, we’re going to bet you get a lot of compliments on this soft blue shade. Oscar de la Renta Larimar Nail Lacquer, $22, oscardelarenta.com

cos-04-oscar-de-la-renta-mdn

Sugary Baby Pink

This shade instantly reminds us of bubblegum—and all things confectionery. Wear it to sweeten up any tough-girl outfit.

OPI Nail Lacquer in In the Spot-Light Pink, $7, trendyhands.com

Cos-Pink

Softly Muted Purple

This toned-down purple polish looks good against any skin tone and will be the perfect accent to your new pastel floral pants for spring. Maybelline New York Color Show in Iced Queen, $4, drugstore.com

Earthy, Muted Beige

An opaque tan crème nail lacquer is a great alternative to a sheer nude shade, especially if you’re craving a touch of color. Butter London Nail Lacquer in Cuppa, $15, butterlondon.com

cos-beige

Pearly Sheens

This candy-colored blue lacquer offers up a semi-sheer, pearly finish with one coat. It’s also a clutch color to wear with denim. Swoon. Deborah Lippmann Moon Rendezvous, $17, lippmanncollection.com

cos-pearl

1950’s Era Lavender

Pastels are stealing the show this season. Swipe on this light lilac to prove you’re on trend. Essie Nail Polish in Bond With Whomever, $8, essie.com (out in March 2013)

cos-09-essie-spring-Bond-with-Whomever-mdn

Putty

A barely there shade that resembles putty is the go-to interview color; it’s also a signature polish that will leave you looking seriously put together. CND Nail Polish in Putty, $9, cnd.com

cos-putty

Iridescent Green

Bold iridescent shades like this one can stand alone against an outfit. Translation: No need to wear that statement necklace or ring. Sally Hansen Lustre Shine in Scarab, $8, drugstore.com

Glitter for Grown-Ups!

glitterForGrownUps

Glitter is best when emphasized in one area. For example “If your eye shadow has glitter, skip the flecks in your gloss.”

Makeup Stylist for the Stars, Janice Daoud’s pick is Nars’ Andy Warhol Soft Touch Pencil ($24) in Silver Factory. The brand’s soft pencils are easy to use and layer. “Apply to the lid then add any light-reflecting shadow on top,” she says. M.A.C.’s Pressed Pigment ($21) in Deeply Dashing turns the silver warm and subtle, while Laura Geller’s Baked Eyeshadow ($24) in Stainless Teal is party-ready. Want more options? Lancome’s Color Design Palette ($49) in Violet Magnetique boasts five colors and built-in directions for building a vivid smoky eye.

Hard Candy might not be packing plastic heart rings anymore, but its devotion to sparkle is still unmatched. Try rimming your eyes with their Take Me Out Eyeliner ($5) in Truffle or Handcuffs for a light-catching cat-eye. Not wild enough? Sephora’s Deco Daze Glitter Eyeliner Appliques ($5) are even easier to apply and come in gold, silver, and purple.

If you’d rather stick to flecks of gold on your lips, there’s no shortage of glitter-infused gloss on the market. Dolce & Gabbana’s Ultra-Shine Lipgloss ($29) in Pink Diamond looks purple but goes on clear, while Bobbi Brown’s High Shimmer Lip Gloss ($23) in Oyster turns frosty. Le Metier de Beaute’s Sheer Brilliance Lip Gloss ($32) in Orange Juiced does deliver a sheer orange tint. If those aren’t actually glittery enough, take the Violent Lips plunge. Their Temporary Lip Tattoos ($7) come in almost every color imaginable (even ombre!) and should stay on all night. There are three per pack, just in case.

Get on the glitter nail polish bandwagon. These are some sparkly picks: Deborah Lippmann’s Nail Lacquer ($18) in Let’s Go Crazy, Butter London’s Nail Polish ($14) in Fiddlesticks. Want chunkier glitter? Topshop’s Nails ($10) in Beleza has silver flecks in blue polish while China Glaze’s Nail Polish ($5) in Techno is as holographic as it sounds.

XOXO
