Couture Beauty Tips

The couture runways are where designers’ wildest ideas and most imaginative visions come to life. But here are some beauty inspirations you can actually wear in real life. From the red lip stain and dewy skin at Christian Dior to the stick-straight locks and smoky eye at Versace, these are the looks you’ll want to re-create.

couture-beauty-dior

Christian Dior

When wearing a bold lip color, like the matte cherry red seen at Christian Dior, it is important to downplay your other features with soft eye makeup and light brows.

Tony Ward

Adding white shimmer (or gold for those with darker complexions) to the inner corners of the eyelid will make your eyes seem bigger, brighter, and more awake.

Alexis Mabille

Minus the butterflies of course (or maybe just one), white eyeshadow and a bold brow is the perfect look for a spring evening.

Atelier Versace

A hair straightener, smoky eye shadow, and lip gloss is all that’s on the Versace girl’s beauty check list.

Your so Couture!

The Top Pre-Fall Collections

The pre-fall collections may not hit stores until July, but that’s no reason not to ponder what we’ll be wanting to wear. These collections are usually the most wearable, but that never stops designers from getting creative. From Thom Browne’s edgy androgynous prep, to Louis Vuitton’s fantasy ski chalet, here are the pre-fall collections that are pretty amazing.

prefall-michael-kors

Michael Kors

For pre-fall, Kors has upped the luxe factor, introducing metallic brocades. Kors also stays true to his Americana roots with a dose of tailored sportswear. It’s impeccably styled: brooches and sneakers? Who knew?

prefall-lv

Louis Vuitton

The new direction of the Vuitton brand is promising. The pre-fall collection truly goes from day to night, featuring an array of looks for everything from après skiing to evening. Also, hello, Vuitton denim!

prefall-valentino

Valentino

Valentino debuted their pre-fall collection with a nod to the owl. Their fine-feathered friends are introduced amongst a moody, earthy palette. The collection also includes its fair share of over the top furs and beautiful nudes.

prefall-t-by-alexander-wang

T by Alexander Wang

Alexander Wang’s diffusion line comes into its own with the pre-fall collection. A very neutral palette with deconstructed details is the stuff of my dreams. This collection is elevated while still staying true to its athletic roots.

prefall-erdem

Erdem

This pre-fall collection was a stunning progression for the designer. Colorful lace, which is a signature, takes center stage amongst elegant dresses that are destined to go from the runway to the red carpet.

prefall-cushnie-et-ochs

Cushnie et Ochs

The Cushnie et Ochs design duo is pretty famous for perfecting the sexy dress. This season, they introduce a new element: pearls. The fresh embellishments paired with their signature silhouettes prove to be a winning combination.

prefall-thom-browne

Thom Browne

Thom Browne’s collection is an adaptation of his classic preppy staples. Suiting, and a very patriotic color palette characterize this pre-fall collection. If you can’t make it through next fall without Thom Browne, you’re in luck. The collection is available for pre-order on Moda Operandi.

prefall-jenni-kayne

Jenni Kayne

Kayne puts a playful spin on pre-fall. The designer introduces a punchy floral print and keeps things nice and light, but contrasts the sweetness by mixing it with fur stoles. Have you noticed a pattern here? Get a fur scarf this season! Seriously.

Stay Stylish!

Borrowed From the Boys

The 2013 menswear-inspired craze welcomed feminine interpretations of classic suiting textures and styles, tough but flirty brogues, and the comfy-cozy boyfriend sweater.

Ring Party!

As a follow-up to the Arm Party, the Ring Party made its mark in 2013. From stacks of mixed metals to statement bands to the boho-cool midi ring—there were so many pieces to either wear alone or pile on.

The Dressed-Up Sweatshirt

A product of the athletic-inspired trend, the dressed-up sweatshirt was immediately embraced by the fun- and comfort-loving fashion set. The piece looks just as cute with skinny jeans as it does with a printed skirt,or…. no pants at all.

Cara Delevingne, Lily Collins, Miroslava Duma

Heavy Metal Hardware

Designers embraced the reinvention of rock style with metal-adorned shoes, boots, and sandals. There’s nothing like chains, grommets, and studs of all shapes and sizes to add tough-girl swagger to any outfit.

besttrends-black-and-white-trend

Black and White

With the return of ’90s minimalism, designers sent a slew of black-and-white contrasting dresses, suits, coats, and leather everything down the spring and fall runways. The trend eventually made its way onto many celebrities—and into our closets.

Chanel fall 2013, Michael Kors spring 2013, Proenza Schouler spring 2013

besttrends-dressy-shorts-trend

Dressy Shorts

Shorts became the new dress, skirt, and even suit piece this year. For the most versatility, designers reinterpreted shorts at varying lengths and in bold colors, prints, and textures.  Good News: dressy shorts are also on 2014 runways and this trend is sticking around.

Stun in Statement Necklaces

Diamonds may be a girl’s best friend, but rhinestones are like your life-of-the-party college buddy. They’re loud, a little outrageous, and when clustered together on a necklace never fail to be the center of attention.

SN-main

Lina Soderstrom: Denim and rhinestones are a classic combination. The model gives the look a modern twist with a tailored blazer and shirt from GANT Rugger. Note how she buttons her blouse all the way up to better showcase the necklace.

SN-EvaMendes

All that glitters is not a statement necklace as Eva Mendes made evident with the vintage-inspired bauble that she designed and wore to the of launch of her New York & Company collection.

SN-Rochas

This stunner from Rochas’ F/W 13 collection is currently sold-out. But if you get your hands on one, it can be styled six ways to Sunday.

SN-AnnaWintour

Anna Wintour: If Vogue’s Queen Bee wears a look, you can trust it’s going to stick around for a while. She put a Park Avenue spin on the necklace by pairing it with a tweed suit during New York Fashion Week. And her younger companion proves the trend has trans-generational appeal!

SN-DriesVanNoten

The rectangular crystals on this Dries Van Noten F/W 13 necklace are offset by the thin silver-plated band. It’s ‘90s minimalism meets early ‘00s bling.

SN-Rihanna

Rihanna: Out on the VMA after-party circuit in New York, the singer’s rhinestone choker almost diverted attention from the plunging neckline of her Balmain Jacquard V-Neck Dress . An eye-catching accessory is a fail-safe way to spice up a little black dress.

Chunky costume necklaces are back in a big way this season and you can find the perfect one for yourself for under $100 with My Picks!

A/X Statement Necklace ($58), Asos Emerald Stone Bib Necklace ($36), Forever 21 Glam Bejeweled Necklace ($13), BaubleBar Maharaja Fringe Strand ($44), Mango Touch Faceted Stones Necklace ($60), Zara Crystal Drop Necklace ($30)

You’re a Stunner!
